Maya Bloom and the Importance of Serving

Maya Bloom has dedicated her life to serving and helping others. As a 13-year member of Girl Scouts, Maya Bloom knows the importance of supporting your local community. Maya Bloom spends hundreds of hours serving each year and has even received the Girl Scouts Gold Award for a service project that took 333 hours to complete over the course of a year. Maya Bloom was also the recipient of the distinguished Prudential Spirit of Community Award for this project and was recognized by Governor Maggie Hassan, New Hampshire Representative Mel Myler, and New Hampshire Senator Sylvia Larsen. Maya Bloom believes that community service has helped shape her into the woman she is today and hopes that more people will begin to serve. Maya Bloom outlines what she believes are the most important aspects of serving, in the hopes of encouraging others to take initiative:

Service builds character. Maya Bloom believes that we have many distractions in modern society and it can be easy to get caught up in things that do not matter. Serving helps people be kind and builds the trait of selflessness.

Service makes a difference in the lives of others. Maya Bloom points out that although you are just one person, when people unite and serve, changes happen. Maya Bloom urges people to look at themselves as a small part of something big; she wants them to know that each time they serve, they are making a difference.

Service helps you meet new people. Serving in your community gives you the opportunity to work as a team and meet new people. Maya Bloom acknowledges that she has made long-lasting friendships with individuals she has met through community projects. When selfless people unite, not only does incredible work get done for local or global communities, but great friendships can be formed as well.
